About the Role

As Senior Accountant, you’ll be a key pillar in managing daily accounting operations, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, and presenting reliable financials for decision-making. You’ll help drive compliance, improve accounting workflows in Odoo, and liaise across departments (operations, sales, procurement) to integrate financial accounting into the business rhythm.

Responsibilities & Duties

1. Financial Accounting & Records

  • Maintain the general ledger, sub-ledgers, and ensure accurate journal entries.
  • Prepare, post, and reconcile accounts payable/receivable and bank/cash accounts daily.
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly & year-end closings, ensuring timely adjustments and accruals.
  • Conduct reconciliations: inventory, creditors, debtors, and intercompany accounts.

2. Reporting & Analysis

  • Generate monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow), variance analysis, and commentary.
  • Provide insights on cost centers, departmental spend, and product / unit profitability.
  • Estimate and manage accruals, provisions, depreciation, amortization schedules.

3. Compliance, Statutory & Audit

  • Support statutory, internal and tax audits; prepare and maintain audit schedules and working papers.
  • Ensure TDS, GST, VAT, withholding, and other regulatory compliance (filings, challans, returns).
  • Assist in preparation of tax disclosures, schedules for income tax, GST reconciliation, and tax payments.

4. Accounting Systems & Controls

  • Improve and enforce accounting workflows / SOPs (e.g. 3-way matching, approval chains).
  • Monitor and rectify data inconsistencies, exceptions, misclassifications in Odoo.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls, reconciliations, and audit trails.

5. Business Partnering & Cross-functional Support

  • Coordinate with sales, operations, procurement, and warehouse to ensure financial data aligns with business transactions.
  • Guide junior accounting staff or assistants; review their work.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and expense tracking.

Must-Have / Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) / CA–Inter / M.Com / B.Com with 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or FMCG.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian GAAP, GST / TDS / Income Tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in Odoo Accounting, or experience in ERP / Tally, advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot).
  • Good analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Experience handling audits, reconciliations, and financial reporting in full cycle.

KPIs / Success Metrics

  • Closing timeline (T+7 or T+10) with minimal adjustments
  • Accuracy of financials (zero major errors / audit flags)
  • Compliance track record: timely GST, TDS filing without penalties
  • Reconciliation aging: reducing long-aged uncleared items
  • Cost variance reporting: ability to explain variances beyond thresholds
